A couple comments.
I rely on a good reason to believe as do all scientists. A good reason to believe involves empirical studies based on the epistemological assumption of methodological naturalism.
I do think for myself constantly. I evaluate those studies, particularly with regard to design and statistical analysis. I have very harsh criticisms about the analytical side.
THe brain regions affected by withdrawal of addictive drugs are primarily the opioid areas. The areas of the brain involved in withdrawal from antidepressants, for instance, are unrelated to those of addictive drugs. Everyone wants to hear one cause for one effect. The world is much more complicated than a one cause one effect model. Multiple causes for similar distal effects (withdrawal symptoms)occur not only in but also the rest of biology, chemistry, physics, meterology and geology, for instance.
Avoiding most "withdrawal" symptoms from going off medication is generally easier with a gradual withdrawal.
Please elaborate your findings and results in terms that link it all together and in terms of a good reason to believe. You can be sure I will read it and offer criticisms of the analytical aspects just as I do for the studies I have mentioned.
Yes, I can be an irritant on both sides of the debate.
